Can Shakeology Help My Thyroid?Since thyroid issues run in my family, especially hypothyroidism, I’ve been reading a lot more about it and also have been looking into how Shakeology may have helped those who have this condition. As it turns out, it’s been very beneficial for many people with this disease!

Pumpkin Spiced Latte (PSL) – The Healthy Version

Latte. Or if you’re a frequent Pumpkin Spice Latte drinker, then you probably refer to it as PSL. By far, I would say it is my favorite drink of all time from Starbucks and so the return of the PSL every fall has me suckered in. I used to stop in every day to treat myself to the irresistible drink, even though I knew it was just adding inches to my thighs, but now there’s no need to!

Pumpkins are definitely great for you and some of their health benefits include:

  • beta-carotene for eye health
  • 1 cup of canned pumpkin has 7g of fiber and 3g of protein
  • it’s packed with vitamins and provides over 50% of your daily dose of vitamin K

For the sake of your waist-line, your health and your sugar-levels, and to get a natural boost of energy, I highly recommend you indulge in this healthy version of Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte. Your body will thank you everyday  and you won’t have to feel guilty any more!

Day 1 – 30 Days of Healthier Habits

imageI’ll admit, I haven’t been consistent with my fitness and nutrition habits lately. So to jump back in, I’m going to be blogging for 30 days straight about a healthy habit that is a part of my journey. Feel free to send me suggestions. I’m down to try something new! :)

Day 1 – I vow to drink Shakeology daily. I find that on days when I skip Shakeology, I feel really sluggish. So I want to function at my best so that I have the motivation and energy to workout, spend time with the family, keep up with the house and not feel tired when I’m at work or working my home business. Coffee doesn’t do it for me. That energy only lasts for a few hours. Shakeology swill last all day long and there is no crashing feeling towards the end of the day.

Chocolate & Vanilla Shakeology Parfait

Who says Shakeology always has to be served as a drink? Try this recipe for a tasty and healthier parfait to satisfy your taste buds, mind and body at breakfast time… or even at dessert-time too!

Chocolate & Vanilla Shakeology Parfait

Prep Time: 5 min.

Servings: 1

 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup nonfat Greek yogurt, divided use
  • 4 tsp. Chocolate Shakeology
  • 4 tsp. Vanilla Shakeology
  • 3 medium strawberries, chopped
  • 1/2 medium banana, chopped
  • 1 tsp. sliced raw almonds

Preparation:

  1. Combine 1/4 cup yogurt and Chocolate Shakeology in a small bowl; mix well. Set aside.
  2. Combine remaining 1/4 cup yogurt and Vanilla Shakeology in a small bowl; mix well. Set aside.
  3. Layer half chocolate yogurt mixture, vanilla yogurt mixture, strawberries, and banana in a medium dessert cup; repeat. Chill for 10 minutes; top with almonds and enjoy!

Piña Colada Recipe

Here’s a healthy twist to a popular cocktail drink. This nutrient-filled piña colada makes a refreshing drink during the summertime. If you’re having a ladies night, maybe adding in a little rum won’t hurt… right?

Ingredients:
1 serving of Vanilla Shakeology
½ cup water
½ cup 100% pineapple juice
½ tsp pure coconut extract
lots of ice

Directions:
Pour it all into a blender and turn that baby on! Then pour it into your favorite cocktail drinking glass and enjoy!

Getting Fit Tip:
Use fresh coconuts and fresh pineapples instead of the juice & extract!

Healthy Chocolate Oatmeal

Healthy, Chocolate Shakeology OatmealHere’s what I had for lunch today…

Warm, yummy, healthy oatmeal with chocolate vegan Shakeology ……. Yummy!

Ingredients:
- A bowl of oatmeal
- Water
- Chocolate Vegan Shakeology

How to make it:
- Pour the oatmeal into a bowl and pour the water until you get your desired thickness. I like my oatmeal thick, so I only add just enough to make it thick. Just be sure to accommodate the shrinkage… so I add a bit more water than I plan on consuming. Then add the Chocolate Vegan Shakeology to the oatmeal. Add it until your taste buds are satisfied! Since it’s healthy, I don’t measure it. Knowing that it has Shakeology in it guarantees that the nutritional value is great!

Getting Fit Tip: In order to preserve as much nutrients as possible, wait until the oatmeal has cooled down a bit before adding the Shakeology. If you add it too soon, you could be killing off a lot of the vitamins before they even get into you body.

Mint Basil Mojito Tropical Shakeology Recipe

I love mojitos, basil, mint, AND Tropical Shakeology! What a perfect combination.

Ingredients
1 C water
1 scoop Tropical Strawberry Shakeology
2 tbsp fresh lime or lemon
2 tbsp fresh chopped basil or mint
1 cup ice

Instructions
Mix all the ingredients listed above with a blender and enjoy! This is best served under the nice, hot sun… at the beach!

Coconut Paradise Recipe

Love coconuts? Here’s a tasty Shakeology recipe to try:coconut-paradise

1 cup of skim milk
1 tsp of coconut extract
1 serving of Tropical Vegan Shakeology
1/2 cup of ice

Mix the ingredients in a blender until you have the desired consistency. Pour it into a fancy glass and garnish with a strawberry and shaved coconut flakes.

Getting Fit Tip:
Rather than using skim milk, use coconut milk. It’ll add more coconut flavor to the drink and has less calories! Also, rather than using coconut extract, blend in real coconuts! :)
